What to Do With Ice Damage
Ice damage occurs after the soil has frozen and is beginning to thaw but refreezes directly on the turf instead of being absorbed into the ground or running off. This creates ice sheets that damage the lawn especially in poorly drained a areas of your lawn. If the ice stays on the turf for long time, it may require turf renovation.
What to Do When You See Snow Mold
Snow mold is a turf disease that shows up as pink snow mold and gray snow mold. Pink snow mold doesn’t need snow to exist but gray snow mold shows only after a prolonged snow coverage. These molds will not kill your lawn but will weaken its structure. It’s best to rake out the bad area and let the warmer weather and fertilizer help recover the turf on its own.
Mole Damage
If you see mounds of soil in the spring or fall, it’s most likely from moles who are tunneling underground in your lawn. Usually the lawn can heal itself after it’s been raked up and fertilized. The best defense against moles is an offense. Right before your last couple of fall mowings, lower your cutting height on your mower.
