A proper floral design requires that you plan the structure of your container planting, consider your growing conditions, contrast your textures, and use the right colors. These four design techniques will give you a great outdoor floral display that you can be proud of when guests come to visit.
Structure of Your Containers & Plants
What will the heights and shapes of your plants be in their containers after they are mature? Are the plants you want upright, broad or trailing? Usually a mixture of plants work best together.
Growing Conditions
Will the plants be in sun or shade? First figure where the pots will be located and then fill them with plants that match their growing conditions. Check plant labels to see sun/shade requirements. Shade and sun matter but so do moisture requirements. Desert loving plants won’t work together with water hogs. Certain flowers need certain types of soils. Make sure that the flowers you plant together are matched for sun levels, moisture levels, and soil type.
Textures
Keep in mind the size of each plant’s leaf size and texture. Are the textures waxy, shiny, prickly, or velvet? When you contrast these textures in a container they will catch your eye more.
Colors
Vivid colors generate energy and excitement. Related colors will create a more peaceful setting. Take into consideration the colors of your surroundings like your house or pavement or the other flowers near your floral display.

A & A Lawn Care & Landscaping can help you create eye catching floral displays using appropriate annuals that grow well in locations you have available. We take into consideration the availability of sun, shade, and water the area receives. You choose the plant colors with our guidance and we plant them all at once in open areas of your landscaping where they can be a focal point. After they are planted, we apply a slow release fertilizer to promote more blooms and stronger roots.
